Most people who host with CyberPages web site design choose a domain name. A domain name is your electronic address and usually resembles your business or project name. CyberPages web site design charges only CDN$25/yr. for domain registration with no additional NIC fees. That's a $10/yr. savings over most other registrars.
Most accounts at CyberPages web site design only have one domain, but in some cases, it is necessary to link several domains to one site. For instance, you may want your .com, .net and .org domains to link to the same point or page in your
web site. This is called Domain Aliasing. Aside from the extra $25/yr domain registration fee, there is no additional monthly charge for this service. If the domain you wish to have aliased is already registered, we charge a $20 fee per alias.
You can use domains from other countries or NICs, such as .ca, .nl, .to and .cc domains. In these cases, you will be required to register the domain yourself and point it to our name servers. We can assist you with any technical question the NIC might ask you.
Each and every hosting package at CyberPages web site design comes with one login userid for Telnet and FTP access. You can use Telnet to login to our UNIX shell and manipulate permissions, compile source code and edit crontabs for regularly scheduled processes, such as custom statistics. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) access allows you to upload your web site instead of using a publishing utility such as FrontPage.
Disk space is the heart of your web site. The disk space included in your package is where you will store your HTML web pages, graphics and other items such as Real Audio files. Included with every account is an ample 50 megabytes of space. This is more than enough for all but our largest customers. To give you an idea, CyberPages web site design only uses about 2megabytes for its entire web site.
Monthly Data Transfer
Included in every package is 6,000 megabytes (6 gigabytes) of data transfer per month. This means that you can send 6 gigabytes worth of "hits" to your visitors each month. How much data transfer you will need depends on how large your web site is and how many visitors you receive each month as well as how much of your site the average visitor will view. CyberPages web site design feels that 6 gigabytes is more than enough for all but the largest sites. The charge for each gigabyte of transfer over and above 6 gigabytes per month is just $4.50. In the event that you use more than 6 gigabytes, CyberPages web site design will notify you of the overage and offer you an opportunity to purchase more bandwidth. It is not our policy to shut sites down unless the site is threatening the quality of service to our other customers. This would be hard to do with our 90mbps connection.
Each package at CyberPages web site design comes with a minimum of 25 POP3 mailboxes. A POP3 mailbox is a passworded mailbox where you store your mail on our servers until you retrieve it remotely with a POP3 client, such as Outlook Express or Netscape Mail. You can add and maintain POP3 mailboxes using our Email Control Panel.
A mailing list is a useful tool to send announcements out to a large group of interested parties just by sending a single e-mail. With a mailing list, users can subscribe themselves to your list by sending a simple E-mail. The owner of the list also has the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe other users as well as to approve posts made to the list. CyberPages web site design features Control Panel administration of mailing lists. With our control panel, you can add or delete subscribers, set moderation privileges, setup message footers and even subject prefixes.
Auto responders let you setup email addresses that can automatically respond with a preset message each time
someone sends a message to that address. You can even forward each message that comes into the auto responder to a real human for a personal response at a later time. This makes it easy to give your business a professional appearance as well as to save time answering the same questions repeatedly. For example, you might want to setup email@example.com to point to an auto responder that only sends preset information back to the sender and another auto responder called firstname.lastname@example.org , that in addition to sending general information forwards the message to a human so that a personal response can be sent later during business hours. Auto responders can be completely
maintained with our Control Panel.
CyberPages web site design features MySQL databases for users who need them. With an SQL database, you can have dynamic content appear on your web site, such as current pricing, inventory and availability of products. You can also store information back into a database, such as orders and comments. Databases are advanced functionality and
require knowledge of CGI scripting and use of other languages such as PHP.
SSL (Secure Socket Layer)
SSL, or a "Secure Server" as it's often called, allows you to collect information securely over the web, such as credit card orders. SSL works by encrypting the information between the client (your customer) and the server. No data is sent unencrypted over the Internet. SSL Using Your Own Certificate: SSL communications require the server to have what's called a "Digital ID" or Certificate. This Certificate let's the client know who they are dealing with and also sets up the encrypted communications between the client and server. Using your own certificate allows you to use your own domain, such as secure.yourdomain.com, but in order to obtain your certificate, you will need to supply proof of your business and identity to a Certificate Authority (CA). This process usually takes a couple of weeks and can cost up to $300.
7 Day Email Support,
We never leave our customers hanging out to dry. Kindly send us an email and we'll respond to it (even at 3am sometimes!) usually within a few hours.
Email Control Panel
All packages include an Email Control Panel. Using this tool, you can create, manage and delete POP3 accounts, E-Mail Forwarding, Mailing Lists and Auto Responders. You can even change your system password using this utility.
FrontPage 2000 Extensions
All customers at CyberPages web site design enjoy free Microsoft FrontPage 2000 support. Simply send us an email requesting them and you'll have them in a jiffy!
CGI and SSI Application Support
All of our packages fully support both compiled, shell and Perl-based CGI applications. We also support SSI (Server Side Includes). What's more, you can run your CGI applications anywhere on your web site you wish. You are not confined to a cgi-bin directory. Simply name your CGI scripts with a .cgi extension and your SSI applications with a .shtml extension and you're all set!
Password Protected Directories
CyberPages web site design fully supports password protected directories via .htaccess files. What's more, you can set custom error pages (with SSI, too!) and other access restrictions and redirections.
All CyberPages web site design customers enjoy automatic statistics generated four times daily. Our statistics package also archives statistics for each and every month, so you can see your entire history with us at a glance. Simply go to
/ys_stats at your domain to view your statistics.
Access to Raw Log Files
In addition to automatic statistics, we also provide you access to two months worth of raw log files. You can download these files or configure your own statistics program by using telnet to connect to our server, compiling a custom application and setting it up in your crontab.
Unlimited Email Aliasing and Forwarding
POP accounts aren't everything. They're costly to you in terms of maintenance (too many passwords!) and often times you simply want to forward mail for a specific address@yourdomain to an off-site mailbox, such as one at your ISP or a HotMail address. You can do this as many times as you need to, and at no charge at CyberPages web site design. Simply use our Email Control Panel to setup the forwarding. You can even forward one address to several individuals.
No Pop-Up Advertisements or Banners
Many free or low cost web hosting companies insert pop-up advertisements or banner advertisements at the top of your pages. CyberPages web site design never has and never will engage in this practice.
State of the Art Everything
CyberPages web site design's servers are owned and operated by UNIX and networking geeks. We are not run by marketing experts, as is often the case with other companies. Knowing this, you can be assured that if there's a new high-tech toy on the market that we can afford, we're buying it. We work hard to tweak and optimize every aspect of our network and our philosophy is overkill when it comes to growth planning. Here's a brief overview of our network:
Our Agreement to You
- Sun Solaris UltraSPARC Enterprise web servers running Solaris 7 and Zeus, the fastest web server application on the
planet. We use Sun everything. We only use one PC, and that's a dual P500 running Linux for our support database. We won't buy a SCSI cable unless it has a Sun logo on it.
- An entirely Cisco based network. You won't find cheap workgroup hubs or pocket hubs in our network. We use Cisco Catalyst switches and Cisco Routers.
- Dual DS3 connectivity two two separate backbones, totaling 90Mbps.
- A chilly computing environment: everything is rack mounted in an environmentally controlled data center. Power is conditioned, UPS equipment is used and we have a diesel backup generator that can be on-line in 10 seconds.
CyberPages web site design will make every effort to provide a fast and reliable platform for your Web based technologies. We will backup customer data once per day, and we agree to maintain a 99.9% up-time on our servers. (not including planned maintenance and/or upgrades, which will be announced to all customers well ahead of time and
usually take place after 2am EST). Having said that, if you're dissatisfied with any downtime that we incur that exceeds 44 minutes in a calendar month's time, simply state so and we will credit you with one month's service as long as your account is in good standing.
